Its been really tough this summer as a farmer in the North Island. We are going through a 1 in 50 year drought leaving farmers having to start feeding out their winter silage in Feb and March because the grass stopped growing 2 months ago. Normally we would have a tonne of grass at this stage and go into winter with loads of grass. Sabella Farms is located in King Country on 100 acres. we don't run alot of animals here. we have 4 mares, 2 foals, 1 stallion, 5 cows and about 15 sheep. For 100 acres that is us absolutely under stocked which is how we like it. Last summer we went into winter flush with grass and didn't have to start feeding out our winter silage until July. We cut our silage in early Feb this year and started feeding it out about 2 weeks after it was cut. I am sure we will make it through winter one way or another but I can't fathom how our farmers are coping as many I speak to are feeding out now which just doesn't happen in King Country/ Taranaki and surrounding areas. So it's tough going and of concern for us in terms of having enough food to get through the long winters we get up high here in King Country for our animals. I like my animals to be nice and fat and well fed so it's alot more work for us feeding out this time of year. All we can hope is the rain picks up again before the frosts arrive as once they show up the grass will not grow again until Oct for us. Pretty scary! #farmlife #farming #sabellafarms #drought #winteriscoming #clydesdales #sabellaclydesdales

I talk alot about the nature of our dogs but it's so much better to just show it. This is Sabella baby Layla with her kitty sibling. This is their nightly ritual where Layla will nib nib and cuddle with him. I look so closely at nature in our dogs and this is exactly why it's so important to consider this. Our dogs are so sweet and kind and these sorts or videos just bring me so much joy. I love our babies they really are wonderful. #sabellapup #sabellafamily #sabellafarms #sabellagermanshepherds #germanshepherds #love
